I’m a Doctor, but There’s One Thing Missing From My Life

People often look at my life and think I already have everything I need.

I have a career I worked hard for. I wake up every morning knowing that my work has a purpose. I put on my scrubs, take my stethoscope, and spend my days caring for people who place their trust in me.

But when the hospital becomes quiet and I finally go home, there is one dream that my career cannot fulfill.

I want to get married.

Not because I am afraid of being alone, and not because I believe marriage magically creates happiness. I simply feel ready to build a life with someone.

My Career Taught Me What Really Matters

Working in medicine changes the way you see life.

Every day reminds me that time is precious. We make plans for next month, next year, or even ten years from now, but life has its own schedule.

That realization made me ask myself a simple question:

What kind of life do I really want?

My answer isn’t a bigger house or a more impressive job title.

I want someone waiting for me at the end of a difficult day.

Someone I can laugh with over dinner. Someone who can tell me about her day while I tell her about mine. Someone with whom ordinary moments become meaningful memories.
